ABOUT THIS ACCESSORY

The form of some creations can be so exquisite and extraordinarily captivating, that their only function is to be viewed as a thing of beauty. Sometimes, the exquisite form also has a delightful function--such is the case with this ravishing Georgian barrette. Repurposed from a brooch, the lavish 19th century hair jewel is an alluring assemblage of fine cannetille domes, granulation, and tiny flowers and leaves, all of which create an intricate tapestry embellished by sparkling oval sky-blue aquamarines (total weight, 11.00 carats). Whether your tresses are flowing or styled in a graceful updo, this rare and exceptional ornament is its pièce de résistance. Hand fabricated in rich 18K gold.

Georgian Jewelry

True antiques, Georgian jewels are the earliest pieces in our collection. Lovely foil-backed stones in mixed-metal settings were made to shine by candlelight over dinner and in the drawing rooms of their genteel wearers. Many pieces were made in memory of loved ones or as “memento mori”—literal reminders of mortality that Georgians saw as sophisticated, rather than morbid. While the delicacy of Georgian era settings has been replaced by more modern methods, the cuts and styles have continued to fascinate jewelry lovers.

Jewelry Care

As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewelry from Lang will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan. We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweler every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place. It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one! As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewelers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewelry.
