This Victorian Diamond Ring Demonstrates the High Durability of Diamond.
Durability refers to the quality of gemstones to withstand wear and tear in normal use. Durability is dependent on hardness (the ability to withstand abrasion), toughness (a quality of withstanding fracturing) and stability (the resistance against chemical and light attack). Diamond has very high durability due to its hardness and stability, it is, however, possible to break it because of its lower toughness. Most gemstones with high durability can be damaged during wear under conditions they were not created for, this holds true for precious metals as well. It is best to take off all jewelry while gardening and during activities such as sports to prevent damage. It is advisable to have your jewelry cleaned and checked, at least once a year, by a professional jeweler, more often if needed.
